Reference Number 1/1091. Mid 19th century c.1840, French period gilt overmantel mirror with a deeply moulded frame of a broad ribbon design, very neat overmantel blocks or pillars at the base and a fine straight bottom edge. It has the original quite marked mercury backed mirror plate and a later back. The back has been put on later as this mirror was originally made to the wall as many were: when it is taken down from its original position a back, usually made of plywood, is put on in order to protect the glass. The size is 156 x 95cm ( 61.5 x 37.5 inches) £1600.
